The Atlanta burger challenge continues...this week(late post, i drafted this two weeks ago, Ry 4/19/2015) I travel with some buddies to Virginia Highlands to try the nationally critically acclaimed "illegal food".
Illegal food is highly decorated, featured in one of my favorites, business insider for having the best burger in GA. Ironically when I read this, they were closed and changing locations(built more hype and anticipation). Finally, this weekend I got to try out The Hank. The restaurant itself is actually pretty small, not crowded buy kinda dope and cozy. I was excited to see they had a legit drink and beer menu (which is necessary to survive today) so I ordered a hopsecutioner; go with what you know. So finally after all of the months of hype and anticipation, I was faced with this beautiful burger. Cooked medium well, with its special sauce, American cheese and Vidallia onion I was actually a bit underwhelmed. It was delicious. Legit. But did the hype do me in? I would go back, and I would def recommend "illegal food" for a cool spot. But specifically for its burger, maybe not. Everyone I came with kinda had the same reaction. So my verdict...inconclusive. I'm going back, maybe with a tinder honey dip(sad I know...smh).
The hype did me in...It was definitely above average and the ambiance won me over, I just wish I got that feeling I was hoping I would after being sold my dream. Ry does recommend The Hank...and a hopsecutioner for my IPA lovers.
