there's a special relationship between a barber and his client. It's hard to trust someone who has total control over your a big part of your physical appearance, but today with all the super technical cuts, you find solace in knowing they can get downright surgical. I had been going to the same barber for 16 years. That kinda trust is hard to come by so I was definitely spoiled. I recently moved a little north of Buckhead from the southside, so making the drive every few weeks to Fayetteville (about an hour) pretty much was a bit too much for me to handle. Trust aside, that's a bit much, plus there's was a place I've had on my radar that had some amazing cuts, fades with curly & wavy hair in particular. Amidst my ventures to my new favorite clothing store, Suit Supply, I was put on to a popular yet, hidden gem, The Shave.
I was pretty nervous about the whole experience. I was worried how they would do with my curly hair and how I would explain what I wanted. Since The Shave is insanely popular, and they'd probably be bumrushed under normal circumstances, they have a pretty interesting system in place for walk-ins. You call to put your name on the list, and they give you an estimate on your wait time, then they call when you're next in line; legit a genius move. I'm a pretty impatient guy, and although The Shave keeps you entertained with people watching and vintage playboys, there's only so much one can take before being bored to death by wait time.
Aside from having the wait time down to a science, and a dope setup, they have the most awesome team of barbers I've seen in a while. Since I was a walk-in with no rapport with any barber there I was given Patricia, who was amazing. I told her how I wanted it; faded on the sides and in the back but not a skin fade, keep some length in the top. It turned out better than I expected. She took her time, while working with precision and creating the curly fade, a sort of curly undercut. I have enough length to style it a few different ways so I was beyond happy with Patricia.
So it's safe to say I have a new barbershop and I couldn't be happier. If you're in Atlanta and you need a cut call my buddies at The Shave.
